Systemic family therapy 1

We are here for you

The family is a system that works on the basis of the roles, beliefs, relationships and ways of functioning of each of its members in relation to the others. At times, conflicts may arise within the family unit that, apparently, do not occur outside it (or not in the same way). Umera offers you a space for the whole family in which to express, understand and work on all those aspects that are causing you pain today and preventing you from living the family life you would like. We will help you make the changes needed for a healthier family life for everyone.

Whenever you need it, reach out for help.

What we will work on

How we support you

The family as a system

Systemic family therapy sees the family as an interconnected system. We help identify dynamics, roles and expectations, improving communication and understanding to strengthen the family’s emotional health.

From the family to each individual

We believe that family wellbeing is key to individual development. Family therapy offers a space to express yourself and to listen, fostering understanding, acceptance and mutual support.

Resolving conflict in a supportive environment

Conflict is natural in any relationship. At Umera we help families manage it in a healthy way, offering tools to turn difficulties into growth and harmony.

The place I want to have within my family

At Umera we work to help each member of the family find their place, fostering mutual respect, healthy communication and emotional support so you can grow together.

What do we treat?

If you recognise yourself in any of these situations, ask for help.

If you struggle to find meaning in your day-to-day life, if you feel sad, tired or low most of the time, if you find it hard to find things that motivate or excite you, if you feel apathetic and have no desire to do anything, or if you find it hard to concentrate, have trouble sleeping or your mood keeps changing… ask for help.

If you feel that situations overwhelm you and you don’t know how to face them, if you feel a distress that stops you moving forward with your plans, if you feel irritable, tense and worried most of the time, if you experience fears and insecurities and feel you are losing control without being able to do anything about it, if even the smallest things feel overwhelming… ask for help.

If you can’t stop thinking without ever finding an answer, if there are worries that keep going round and round in your head and won’t let you live in peace, if you have catastrophic thoughts that make you anxious or you need to check things several times and still have doubts, if you have strange fears and compulsions, if you often repeat certain behaviours or rituals, if you need everything to be in order and symmetrical or if you need to have everything under control at all times… ask for help.

If you feel that a situation is overloading you, if you feel constantly wound up and find it hard to switch your mind off, if you feel despair and are irritable, if you are constantly tense and feel out of control or worried, if you have been through a significant experience (or a series of experiences) that you don’t know how to handle and feel that everything is piling up, if you feel that all this is affecting your personal and professional life… ask for help.

If you find it hard to understand interpersonal relationships and don’t know how to communicate appropriately with others, if you notice restrictive and repetitive patterns of behaviour in yourself, if you have very specific and unusual interests that often occupy your mind, if you find it hard to understand your own emotions and those of others… ask for help.

If you find yourself tossing and turning in bed without managing to fall asleep, if you fall asleep but wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, if you wake up every morning before the alarm goes off, if you can’t rest… ask for help.

If you feel embarrassed when you have to talk to someone you don’t know, if you worry about bothering others when you have something to say, if you always put others before yourself, if you feel insecure in front of an audience, if you notice you are isolating yourself from others, if you worry about what others will think of you, if you can’t control your reactions when you feel you are being watched… ask for help.

If you feel there are emotions that control you rather than the other way round, if you find it hard to get over significant events in your life that make you feel bad, if you struggle to identify how what happens around you makes you feel and don’t know how to act, if you have the feeling of carrying built-up anger or if you never allow yourself to be sad, angry or bored… ask for help.

If you find it hard to control your impulsiveness, if you often act without thinking and then realise it would have been better to do things differently, if you have outbursts of aggression or anger, if you feel hooked on gambling, technology, etc., and feel there is nothing you can do to avoid always falling into the same behaviours, if you feel you are losing control over yourself… ask for help.

If you worry about your health, if you have aches and pains, sometimes feel you can’t breathe properly, often feel exhausted or notice that your body has allergic-type reactions, if you feel a lump in your throat or your stomach in knots, if you often get headaches without knowing exactly why or feel dizzy and nauseous and doctors can’t find an explanation for everything that is happening to you… ask for help.

If a specific fear stops you doing things the way you would like, if you have fears that defy logic and reason, if you have uncontrollable, disproportionate reactions to situations that don’t affect other people in the same way, if you feel insecure when you are away from home or in open spaces, if you are always worried about your health and afraid of getting ill, if you don’t dare to speak to strangers or in front of an audience, if you are afraid… ask for help.

If you are going through a time of change in your life or feel that everything is always the same and you are stuck, if you find it hard to see where you are heading and to find your path, if you find it hard to know who you really are and what keeps you going, if you feel alone among people and feel lost… ask for help.

If you always follow the same repetitive patterns in the way you think, feel and behave, patterns that shape how you relate to others and how you live your life, if you realise you keep making the same mistakes, if you sometimes feel that you feel too much or, on the contrary, too little, if you notice you always need to have others very close, or always too far away… ask for help.

If you have been through a painful experience that still affects you today, if memories of situations you try to avoid often come back to you and cause you anxiety, if you have lived through a strange situation that you don’t quite know how to explain or make sense of… ask for help.

We answer your questions

The questions we are asked most often before starting.

It is an approach that sees the family as a system in which what happens to one member affects the rest. Rather than focusing on a single person, it looks at the relationships, roles and communication among everyone in order to find new, healthier ways of functioning.

It can be helpful when there are recurring conflicts, communication difficulties, major changes such as a separation, a bereavement, the arrival of a new family member or the children reaching adolescence, or when one family member’s distress affects everyone’s life together.

Not always. Depending on the situation, we may work with the whole family, with some of its members, or combine joint and individual sessions. In the first session we assess the most suitable way to begin.

You can write to us through the contact form, by email at info@umerapsicologia.com or by WhatsApp on 626 620 763. We will get back to you to answer any questions and find a time for your first session.
